A Pioneering Family, crafting timber since 1870
Genia name represents generations of knowledge and experience - past and present, and our future, driven by a desire to succeed and build customer relationships that stand through time. Reliability, expertise, trust and accountability drive what we do at Genia every day.
The Beginnings
Joseph Hewetson, accompanied by his wife and child Thomas arrived in New Zealand in 1842 on the Olympus, settling in the Moutere area. By 1870 the Hewetson family had established a saw-milling venture.
Growth
Mark Hewetson purchased Motueka Lumber, a small operation manufacturing pickets and timber componentry, processing low-grade sawn timber into high-value products.
MLC Group
Mark was joined by his three brothers, followed by his own sons and daughter in the mid-2000s. In 2014 the company became MLC Group.
Genia Rebrand
A rebrand to Genia, meaning generation, better reflected the long history of the company and the new generation of people, partnerships and innovation driving it forward.
